Tux Paint is an award-winning, free drawing program for children aged 3-12 (preschool and kindergarten). Tux Paint is used by schools all over the world to teach computer literacy and drawing. It features an intuitive interface, fun sound effects, and a cartoon mascot named Tux who appears at bottom of screen to offer tips, hints, and information to help children use the application.
Children are given a blank canvas and various tools to help them create. The drawing tools are readily accessible and made available on the canvas. The canvas is fixed in size so you don't have to worry about 'pixels or 'inches when making new pictures. It can also be displayed full screen to hide the computer's underlying desktop interface. It defaults to 800x600, but it can be run at larger sizes, in portrait or landscape modes, as well.
A simple thumbnail display is used to load and save images. This is because no knowledge of the file structure is required. File names are not necessary. It is fun and easy to use for children. It can also be configured and sound effects, print, or quit options can all be disabled. Tux Paint supports a wide range of languages, with some parts being translated into 129 languages.
Overall, Tux paint is a great tool for pre-schoolers and beyond to express their creativity. It is easy to use for young minds. There are many drawing tools, including stamps and brushes. Text can be entered in many different fonts, and there's also an effects tool that you can play with.
