The basics of typing in Transcribe

Transcribe! Transcribe! is a great program that anyone who loves to transcribe music from their home recordings. Transcribe! Although Transcribe! makes it much easier, it's still quite difficult work. If you have never tried to transcribe music from your home recordings, it might be a good idea to start with more traditional methods - using a normal music software to do the first transcriptions.

It is important to strike a balance between speed and pitch when typing music. This can be difficult. The result of typing music in the fast key-switch mode will often be a garbled mess of letters and symbols that have no meaning at all. The key-switch allows you to type very fast if you are familiar with the key-switch system. It also allows you to separate words that may not be immediately obvious to the naked eye. Some keys may not be appropriate depending on the task at hand. To practice this method, you should just type as fast as possible in an effort to achieve some standardization. Standardization is possible only if you can recognize certain words when you type them. It also helps to recognize the words when they are repeated in your own music. Once you are comfortable with this method of typing, you can work on improving your typing speed. This is the key to becoming a good transcriber.

You can start typing in Transcribe. You will need to ensure that Transcribe has a variety of key shortcuts. Instead of typing it, which is usually signifying key-finger up/down, you can simply type c to indicate that your current keyboard key needs to be highlighted (increased).
