Adventure game - Point and click

There is something wrong in the library. It's up you, the librarian to find out what it is. The Librarian is a beautiful piece of pixel art that will appeal to fans of point-and-click games.

Artistic adventure

Thimbleweed Park or Photographs are likely familiar to you if you play point-and-click adventure games. These games feature detailed pixel art from Octavi Navarro. The Librarian is his latest solo effort and is full of charm.

Heritage of adventure games

Point and click games have been around since years. They involve clicking on objects or mousing over them to find clues or combining them in order to solve puzzles. Octavi Navarro's involvement in Thimbleweed Park is a fitting one, as Ron Gilbert, a veteran point-and-click developer, designed that game.

The Librarian is Navarro's simplified version of the genre's fundamentals. Click the mouse to move Liz (your character) around and explore. Click on an object to view a description and click on it for more information. Drag items from your inventory to an object or area of the screen you want to use.

Compelling story

A mysterious owl appears in your room with a note saying that "something is wrong in this library." Once you get there, you find someone or something has killed everyone. TheLibrarian suggests that a murder-mystery may be at hand, but what happens next is both strange and ambiguous.

The game's opening note is the only text in the world. Everything you learn is through environmental storytelling. The Librarian feels less like an adventure game and more like an exploration game like Gone Home.

Low specs, high quality

The game requires very low system requirements to run. However, the pixel art graphics look great in motion. It ran smoothly on Windows 7, but we recommend that you have at least Windows 8.

Beautifully realized short adventure

The Librarian is a must-see, even if you don't know much about Octavi Navarro's work. It's free and only takes about 30 minutes to play. If you want a similar experience but with a longer play time, The Last Door is a good choice.
