v 1.6.2|Syncplay
Syncplay is a great tool that allows people to share a viewing experience regardless of where they are located. You can watch anime, movies and TV shows together as if you were in the same room.
The Syncplay client launches a media player on your machine, connects to a Syncplay Server and joins a virtual space on that server. To allow everyone in the same virtual room to replicate the actions of the media player, pauses, un-pauses, and seeks made within the media player instance are relayed via the server to other viewers. The server keeps track where everyone is in the video, so that if someone joins they can be brought there. If someone is too far ahead they may be brought back in sync.
Syncplay can also share information about the files you are currently playing. This makes it easier for friends to confirm that they are playing the same files, or to warn them if they are. You can choose whether you want your file information sent in plain text, hashed or not. The Syncplay servers are in 'room isolation' mode. This means that information you send is only shared with your friends in the same virtual space. Other people cannot see which rooms are currently available. You can also create your own password-protected Syncplay server.
