Adventure game

Submachine Universe, a massively multiplayer online game, was launched in 2010. It's the latest addition to the Submachine series, which allows players to explore rooms, read the legends, and travel between different locations in the universe.

A project that is open-ended

Mateusz Skutnik was the developer behind Escape from JiG. Submachine Universe, his other point-and-click creation features similar cartoon designs and a plot packed with puzzles.

It is not a standalone project. Skutnik was able to create new puzzles and locations for the Submachine series of Adobe-based escape and adventure games.

Gameplay

This game is free from linearity. You can roam the world and explore what's there. You will start in a laboratory and be given six additional locations as coordinates. Each new location contains a list that will allow you to continue your exploration.

The goal is to explore as many rooms as possible. Even the most dedicated players will not be able to explore every room. There are thousands of locations.

Tracking clues, random coordinates or following the provided list will help you find each room. You'll also find four puzzle-protected tiles while you do this. Once you have solved them all, the game will send you to the Observatory portal to escape.

Engaging

The game's puzzles are reminiscent of Fragments of Euclid from itch.io. However, the design is more human-centric. While the submerged technology's dark drawings resemble Futurama's style, they are still immersive.

The music that plays in the background is a combination of a high-pitched song and a variety of noises that add to the atmosphere. It's best to use headphones to hear the creaking doors and the shingle under your feet.

There are many theories about the interaction between rooms and players. Some were even included in the story by the developer to keep the mystery alive.

Amazing, but not finished

This game is an engaging experience that offers new locations to explore and challenging puzzles to solve. It's still in development so not everyone can play it.
