Web browser exam environment

Secure Exam Browser allows you to conduct online exams in a safe environment. It temporarily controls system use and prevents exam-takers access to unauthorised resources.

Secure assessments

SEB is not an assessment-creation platform like tExamSoft or similar tools. It is a tool for completing exams, but it is powerful. It disables shortcuts and operating system functions, online browsing, as well as provides robust detection systems.

Deployment

SEB is compatible with most web-based learning management and exams systems. It can be used in conjunction with other applications like Moodle, ILIAS, and OpenOlat.

The program is compatible with tWindows, macOS and iPad devices. The latest version added webcam support. It doesn't work on smartphones such as tQuestionmark Secure.

Customisable protection

SEB supports fullscreen and multiple browser modes. It removes all navigation elements from the page in the latter option. It also includes a URL filter and a VM detection. It can disable spell checking and dictionary search, as well as hotkeys that allow you to switch to other apps.

The program can be configured to allow exam creators to tailor the features to their needs. You can allow certain functions, allow third-party apps, and allow full web apps and HTML documents.

Design and installation

SEB is made up of two components: a kiosk application as well as a browser. The kiosk blocks other computer functions and launches the SEB browser. Third-party apps are not allowed. The browser element displays an exam page that is connected to the learning management software.

The UI displays navigation for the exam only. The complex authentication process verifies that the exam is being run with correct settings by running an unaltered program version.

If SEB is being used with a third-party tool like Moodle, you will need to go to the Settings section of your program. To ensure compliance on the student's side, you will need to select 'Require Seb' from the Settings.

Nearly completeproof

Safe Exam Browser is a great addition to traditional online exam tools. Although it is a shame that Safe Exam Browser doesn't work on smartphones, it still performs its primary function seamlessly.
