Free file recovery tool

Transcend is responsible for RecoveRx, a free program for Windows. It is compatible with Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. To make use of the program, you will need administrator rights.

The software searches for deleted files in various formats such as photos, documents, and music. The interface is simple and allows you to format or recover data from various storage devices such as flash drives, memory cards, external hard drives, SSDs, solid-state drives (SSDs), and music players. EaseUS data recovery wizard free and Wise data recovery are two alternatives.

How to use

RecoveRx can be downloaded and installed using the standard Windows procedure. Open the software and click "Recover" on the left. Select your device from the list and click 'Next. To select the file formats you wish to recover, use the tick boxes. RecoveRx supports audio, video, and document formats.

Click "Start" and wait for the search process to complete. A pop-up block will show the 'Elapsed Time’ and the progress in percentage.

A recovery result will be displayed. It will be categorised according the format you have chosen and the number of files that were recovered under each category. To view the files, click on the numbers.

Formatting

RecoveRx can be used to format SD and CF cards, but not StoreJet external hard drives. Formatting will erase all data so make sure you have all files recovered. Click on 'Format' to select the drive letter or the memory card. Next, select the device type and enter a name if you wish. This name will be displayed if you use the device at a later stage to transfer data.

The default setting is for a "Quick Format", but you can also choose to use a "Complete Format". If you intend to use the storage device again, choose a quick format. A complete format is slower and more secure and erases all data from the storage device.

Clicking on 'Format' will bring up a warning that 'Format will erase all data'. To proceed, click on 'OK' and wait for formatting completion. During formatting, do not disconnect the storage device. After formatting is complete, the software will display a "Success" message.

Recover files or format devices

RecoveRx, a Windows utility that allows you to recover deleted files from different storage devices, is free. It supports most popular formats and has a simple interface with a step-by-step guide that makes it easy for beginners.
