Text-based exploration game

Nightbloom is a text-based adventure that lets you explore an abandoned colony on a distant planet.

Text-based gameplay

Nightbloom is a text-based game. The displayed text gradually reveals more information about the planet you visit and the colony that you are visiting. The console uses only two words to control the Parse system. You must enter the correct words to progress in the game.

To engage with characters, it is necessary to speak with them and use the correct order of the words. If you send the wrong command, you will only get a generic error message with no hint of progression.

Creative interface

The only thing that makes up the game is an old-fashioned monitor. This monitor is your interface to the entire story. It displays bits of information, character dialog, and low-resolution images. The interface consists of a number of buttons, a near-off-screen radar, as well as a turn-dial. You'll see pictures of flowers and other native plants.

Retro-style

The retro-inspired game design is a result of the text-based gameplay and the old-fashioned monitor. This adds to its charm and immerses you in the exploration of this strange land. The game plays in a similar way to other old games, which had limited features and did not have the modern upgrades that are available.

Lightweight

Nightbloom is extremely lightweight and requires very little system resources to run the game. The application does not require the use of massive 3D dragons or advanced combat calculations to be rendered in.

Insufficient depth

Nightbloom is lacking in depth when compared with other titles like Terraria or A Short Hike. Although the story is compelling enough to keep you playing until the end, there is no hidden lore that can be discovered on replays. This is because the game's text-based gameplay and lack of 3D models make it very resource-intensive.
