Windows security hacking tool

Mimikatz, an open-source tool that allows you to access account information from operating system and software, is called Mimikatz. It is one of the most serious threats to Windows security.

More than a proof-of-concept

Benjamin Delpy created Mimikatz to prove the concept of Microsoft security protocols. It was quickly posted on Github and became one of the most popular hacking tools.

Mimikatz isn’t a virus but it can help create viruses. It allows developers to think of stronger, more comprehensive ways to protect Windows networks. Hackers also use it.

Functionalities

Mimikatz demonstrated how it was possible to exploit single vulnerabilities in the authentication system for Windows devices when it was first launched. It has grown over the years and now displays various weaknesses in 32-bit/64 bit systems.

Primary functions include pass the-hash or pass-the ticket, which allow you to steal credentials from older and newer systems. It can also bypass the hash/key to impersonate accounts more authentically.

Modern features include Kerberos Golden, and Silver Ticket to hack into hidden accounts. Pass-the-Cache attacks Mac, Linux, and UNIX systems in the same way.

Combinations and uses

Mimikatz allows hackers to access restricted information about people's profiles by stealing password data and account login details. Its primary purpose is to attack Windows clients and extract data.

Hackers have the ability to add two components to the program and make it more powerful. Mimidrv is a driver which interacts with Windows kernel. Mimilib is a bypass for app lockers and authentication packages. It also acts as a password filter.

Access to a physical computer is required in order to use this program. Many Windows updates now address vulnerabilities Mimikatz is trying to exploit, such a slow shutdown.

To run Mimikatz, you must click the "Run as Administrator" function even if your Admin Account is logged in. Once it is launched, you will see a console that allows you to enter commands in real time.

A threat

Mimikatz is a dangerous tool which has made its way to the most deadly, global ransomware viruses. It's a powerful hacking utility that can make systems safer.
