Free horror RPG for Windows

Decestia offers In The Mountains, a horror adventure game for Windows. You are trapped in a snowstorm and forced to escape an abandoned building. There you will find some horrifyingly bloody scenes. The entire game is presented in the first-person view.

Although the developer originally intended to abandon the project they changed their mind and decided to make it a reality. The graphics are a bit sloppy, but it doesn’t affect the atmosphere or gameplay. Siren Head and The Baby In Yellow are great for first-person horror adventures.

Grab your coat

In The Mountains, as the name suggests places you high up in a snowy mountain range and you wander off the beaten track. You are taken by surprise when a snowstorm hits and you have no way of getting back. You find shelter in an abandoned Delta Post facility.

You're not the only living thing there. There are other people or things in the facility. It's not just the weather that you have to live with.

Take control

This game is point-and-click and does not have a keyboard option. To maintain smooth movement in the environment, you might need to lower your mouse sensitivity to 600 DPI due to the unpolished nature of the game.

Listen and look

Although the graphics look pixelated, it is likely that they were designed to look like PS1 games. The combination of the dark surroundings in Delta Post and the vagueness of the graphic style creates a sense of impending doom when you walk the corridors.

The sound effects are equally powerful, sending chills down your spine even before you get scared.

Our take

The game In The Mountains is an easy-to-learn first-person horror adventure. The combination of audio, visuals and gameplay creates a constant feeling of dread. You are trapped in Delta Post due to the weather and have no choice but continue investigating and trying to find out what it is.
