v 0.97 RC 1|Hydrogen Dev Team
Hydrogen is an Open Source, powerful virtual drum machine. It works without any plugins and offers a wide range of patterns and samples.
Hydrogen can be played on a computer keyboard or interfaced with an external Midi controller. It can also be linked to sequencing software like Sternberg's Cubase.
These are the key features:
The Song Editors allows you to organize your work. The Pattern Editor allows you to create new patterns, alter existing ones, or modify those that have been created. You can view the Pattern Editor from either a Drum or Piano view. Hydrogen can be viewed in a Drum view as a drum machine. In the Piano view, it can be used as a general synthesizer.
Hydrogen's sound editor interface allows you to hack up and play with different samples. It has three sections: a sample visualization area, a time modification area that alters the frequency without altering it, and a third area to preview your final work. The Mixer is based upon an electronic mixer that featured a Fader and Mute buttons, as well as a Solo button and a Solo button. This is where you can mix your samples and drum beats together to create your work.
Hydrogen is a great virtual drum machine. It doesn't eat too much of your system resources, is lightweight for a music creation app, and is easy to use. Hydrogen is a great app to explore beat editing.
