How does hex editor work?

Hex editors can be used by programmers to modify the binary and hex content of programming languages. HxD Hex Editor can read and write files, disks, and memory. Data inspector can be used for checking malware, repairing structures, and other purposes. You can work on individual projects by tabbing the user interface.

Above the workspace is a command and menu bar. You can customize the editing experience by using the three main dropdown menus located in the icon bar. There are many byte patterns available: 8, 10, 16, and so on. You can open the data using different character sets: Macintosh (EBCDIC), DOS (DoS), and ANSI. There are many data formats that you can choose from in the dropdown: hex, dec and oct.

HxD provides search and replace functions for float and integer data types: Unicode and hex. HxD can search all, forward, and backward. You can perform SHA-512 and SHA-1 checks as well as MD5, custom CRC, checksums, etc. You can compare files by clicking on the 'Compare’ button.

The hex files, output and source code can be exported to different formats by hovering over 'Export' in the File section. You can export the source code in C, C# Java, Pascal, Visual Basic.NET. Formatted outputs can also be exported to editor view HTML Richtext and TeX. You can save Hex files as Motorola Records and Intel Hex files.

The document's size will determine how long it takes to export. File tools allow you to safely export, share, split, and more. The file shredder feature allows you to securely delete archives. HxD acts as a RAM-editor, allowing you to manage the main memory sections of your RAM.
