OCR program free
gImageReader Windows is an open-source program that recognizes text in images and extracts it to your preferred output format for editing. It is easy to import an image or PDF into the gImageReader application. It takes just a few clicks to extract selected text from the image.
This app is similar to other optical character recognition (OCR), apps such as ABBYY FineReader. The aesthetics are a little lacking in this app. The emphasis is on functionality, not form. This app is great for editing text locked in PDF documents.
What is gImageReader?gImageReader is a combination of two open-source programs. It is a combination of two free, open-source programs. The interface is built using a Gtk/Qt programkit. The OCR processing is done by the Tesseract text recognition program.
Is it safe? Some users reported that their antivirus software detected a virus in the gImageReader program they downloaded. We recommend that you make sure your antivirus protection is up-to-date before downloading this app.
How do I install? This app can be downloaded from a trusted website.
Drag boxes around the text you want to extract from your source file or select the entire image. There are two OCR modes: plain text and hOCR. Right-click on the area you wish to extract text. There are three options available:
Open the Control Panel on Windows and click 'Uninstall a program'. Click on gImageReader to be removed from the program list. You can also right-click on gImageReader and choose 'Uninstall' from a contextual menu
Our viewOur testing of the gImageReader was very accurate in extracting English from files in Portuguese.
Practically, it's easy for me to recommend gImageReader. However, I do want to point out the security concerns of some users. You may prefer the security of downloading an app from Microsoft Store (a9t9) Free OCR Software. This software is simple to use and can extract text in multiple languages.
