v 2.18.2|Open Source Geospatial Foundation
GeoServer is a Java-based server software that allows you to view and edit geospatial information. GeoServer offers great flexibility for map creation and data sharing thanks to the Open Geospatial Consortium's (OGC) open standards.
GeoServer can create maps using the Web Map Service (WMS), which allows for a variety of output formats. GeoServer integrates OpenLayers, a free mapping library that makes map generation quick and simple.
Geotools is an open-source Java GIS toolkit that powers the GeoServer app. GeoServer can display data in any of the most popular mapping apps, such as Google Maps and Google Earth, Yahoo Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth. GeoServer can also connect to traditional GIS architectures like ESRI ArcGIS.
GeoServer is written using Java and allows you to share, edit and modify geospatial data. It was designed to be interoperable and publishes data from all major spatial data sources using open standards, WMS, WFS and WCS.
