v 1.3.1|Gajim
Free messaging service
Gajim is an open-source messaging platform that allows you to communicate with your friends and family using a designated server. Gajim uses end-to-end encryption to keep your online chat secure and private from prying eyes. Gajim allows you to send files, such as photos and videos, to your family members, friends, or colleagues.
Choose your serverGajim is a decentralized messaging system that requires you and your contacts use a specific server. The service allows you to create multiple accounts which makes it easy to manage contacts and servers. You can also use the application with other communication methods.
End-to-end encryptionTo prevent data monitoring or tracking, encryption is a must. Gajim uses end to end encryption that eliminates the middleman. This reduces the possibility of hackers intercepting and decrypting your chat. To protect your private information, the service uses OMEMO, PGP, and OpenPGP.
Open-sourceGajim is open-source software. Gajim is free to use without any trial or purchase of a future license. After downloading the app, there won't be any malicious code or viruses on your computer. The service is only compatible with the most recent Windows versions.
PluginsPlugins on Gajim allow you to modify the features available and increase the utility of your application. Plugins can be used to spell-check, integrate Wikipedia and Wiktionary. You will need to download the plugins separately. After the main application has been set up, they are ready to be installed.
Files to shareGajim allows you share files with your messages. There are no restrictions on what you can send, but the application fully supports picture and video messages. These files can be sent to groups or private chats. The app also offers chat history management, statuses and user profiles. These features are similar in nature to Discord and other alternatives.
Decentralised messagingGajim is a good application to install if your goal is to have secure online chats. Plugins allow for you to modify the application and add features like automatic spell-checking or Wikipedia integration. Pidgin or Hangouts are great alternatives to Gajim.
