FreeCad (Windows).
3D computer graphics are now commonplace in the design industry. Computer graphics are a blessing for anyone working in entertainment or technical engineering. It's not surprising that CAD software or computer-aided design has risen to meet the needs of industry designers. FreeCAD is an open-source CAD program originally developed by Jurgen Riegel and Werner Mayer. It is an open-source project and is being developed by a dedicated community.
OverviewFreeCAD is a parametric 3DCAD modelling software. Parametric modelling software uses parameters, rather than polygon 3D modeling software like Maya or 3DSMax, to edit and build 3D models. Parametric models such as FreeCAD are used primarily for industrial and architectural designs. As a result, 3D printers work better with these programs.
System RequirementsFreeCAD supports Windows, Mac, and Linux across all platforms. Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.11 respectively are the minimum supported versions of Windows and Mac. FreeCAD does not specify minimum system requirements, but it is recommended that you have a good CPU, graphics card, and high RAM. The more complex the model design, the greater the impact it has on overall machine performance.
InterfaceFreeCAD's interface is simple and intuitive despite its many features. For easy access, the most commonly used tools are located in the toolbars at top of screen. The panel to the left of your screen allows you to edit and find the attributes and parameters for your 3D model. The purple gradient background makes it easy to distinguish models from the background.
FeaturesFreeCAD is more focused on 3D design. FreeCAD is more focused on 3D design. It does not include animation or sculpting features. However, you can install add-ons for animation. FreeCAD instead has modules called Workbenches that are focused on technical designs like architecture and mechanical manufacturing. The Arch Workbench makes use of Building Information Modelling (or BIM) tools that provide additional information about architectural materials, cost, energy and other details. The Path Workbench can be used to create instructions that CNC machines can follow. FreeCAD also includes a Sketcher Workbench that allows users to draw 2D geometric shapes for use in other models.
The Raytracing Workbench can render finished models using external renderers, such as povray or luxrender. FreeCAD also offers the Robot Workbench, which can be used for simulating a 6-axis industrial robotics.
Powerful and FreeFreeCAD is a free project that offers many useful features. FreeCAD is not recommended for animators and artists because it lacks animation and sculpting features. Industrial designers will appreciate the technical workbenches such as the Arch and Path ones. If you are concerned about your budget, FreeCAD is a good CAD program to try. Although it may not be as complete as AutoCAD, it will still do the job.
