Fraps is a universal Windows program that can be used with any game using DirectX or OpenGL technology. Fraps can be described as:

Benchmarking Software – See how many frames per second (FPS), you are seeing in a corner on your screen. You can create custom benchmarks to measure the frame rate at any point. You can save the statistics to disk and use them in your own reviews or applications.

Screen Capture Software – Take a screenshot by pressing a key You don't need to copy and paste the screen into a paint program each time you want it. Screen captures are automatically named and timestamped.

Fraps supports DirectX 10 and Vista games. DirectX is used to run the Vista Desktop Window Manager (DWM), which allows you to take screenshots and record video directly from your desktop, just like any other 3D game or application in Vista.
