Eraser for Windows

Eraser, an advanced security tool for Windows, allows you to erase all sensitive data from your hard disk by overwriting it multiple times using carefully selected patterns.

The operating system does not actually delete a file. It only removes the file's reference from the file system table when you delete it. The file will remain on the disk until a new file is created over it. It may be possible to recover data from the magnetic fields on your disk platter surface.

Secure file deletion can be complicated by several factors, including write cache, hard disk construction, and data encoding. These issues were considered when Eraser was created.
