Compatibility with Windows and Visual Studio on the Linux Machine
The cmder program, an open-source software, can be downloaded as a mini version (only 6 MB) or a full professional version (more than 40 MB). It is a console emulator that can be easily transferred to a USB flash drive. This makes it portable. There are many other free Windows emulators, but this program was created from frustration. Many users have reported issues with compatibility and smoothness. I was able to find a program that worked well with my laptop.
cmder allows me to play old PC games without the need to burn the CD. Many people don't know that you can load your Windows PC with a "rom". This is a memory stick that allows for you to load a specific software package. This software package will install the programs necessary to run your game. The command prompt is handy for accessing files on your hard disk.
You can either load the cmder application and then open Microsoft Visual Studio (the no-cost visual studio) console. Type "help" in the text box and then follow the instructions. If you are confused by the cmder wizard, here is a quick recap. Follow the instructions on screen and then go back to the cmder read me file. I was able load the cmder console quickly and started the visual studio installation process.
