Black Bird Image Optimizer, a commercial tool, can optimize the size of JPG and PNG files. The tool uses color quantization, and specifically harnesses compression tools pngquant & jpegtran. These tools allow it to reduce the number colors in an image while still maintaining the overall visual structure. Although the result looks very similar to that of the original, it does not provide lossless compression.

The app is very easy to use. Start it, hit 'Upload File', then select a target image file to be displayed in the Before' window. In just a few seconds, a reduced version of your image will be displayed in the Optimized' window with a smaller file size.

Color quantization reduces the number colors in an image, while still maintaining its overall visual structure. This can reduce the file size depending on the type of file.

Black Bird Image Optimizer also attempts to determine the best PNG file colortype. It should transform the RGB area to allow it to choose the best colortype with greater precision.

You can also apply effects to the image to improve it further, such as blurring or changing brightness and contrast.
