v 2.4|Banshee
Open source media player
Novell Inc. developed Banshee, a free and open source media player. Banshee, originally called Sonance until its official renaming in 2005, was Ubuntu and Linux Mint’s default music player. It can play from both local and online sources.
Stable ReleasesBanshee is the only platform to receive a stable release, as it was originally developed for Linux. Beta and alpha versions for Windows and Mac are available. respective. Despite this, the Windows platform's alpha version is still usable and well-designed.
InterfaceThe interface of Banshee is modern and sleek. It has the most popular layout for media players, which consists of a side panel where users can access all their media files. The control bar is located at the top of the window. The controls are still very basic as Banshee Windows is still in its alpha stage. It only has play/pause and next/preview controls.
Media FilesBanshee's biggest problem is the difficulty in adding media files to the queue. To add files to the queue, users can't drag and drop files. Instead, users must manually search for folders with Banshee’s Import command.
Online Media is GreatOnline media files are where Banshee excels. Although it can be difficult to use it with local media files it works great with online files such as audiobooks from Livribox. Although Banshee is not as advanced as other players it still has some value.
