Characteristics: Self duplication using an .exe file is one of the ways this virus is spread. W32.Elet duplicates itself through the file “Ptsnoop.exe”. Ptsnoop.exe is a dangerous executable file used by the W32.Elet worm parasite. This is usually found at the windows system directory folder. If multiple copies of this file are found in the folder, it means that the virus is already present and more importantly, crucial in the security of your computer. It also automatically repeatedly copies itself in an infinite number of times.

More details about W32.Elet

W32.Elet can affect all Windows Operating System platforms. Another consequence of executing Ptsnoop.exe is the deletion of one .exe file from the windows directory folder and one .exe file from the system folder. Reports also show that this virus will copy itself after copying itself to windows directory folders of several deleted file names already existing on that folder. Removal is easy but you need to disable system restore facilities to prevent the virus from spreading in your computer.

The W32.Elet program can be used to execute specific actions in the infected computer. These are executed without the user’s consent. These may merely irritate users while others may prevent them from performing basic tasks. Information and system resources may also be compromised. The software may change the settings of the system’s mouse. The double click feature of the mouse may be disabled. The mouse may also be set to max point, moving the cursor to the bottom right area of the screen. The mouse’s left and right buttons may also be switched. The mouse may also be stuck at mouse point. The last two settings may be also be reversed.
