If one doesn’t have a licensed version of Microsoft Windows then he has to purchase one and got to upgrade with the existing one. Its very easy to buy one through a mail to Microsoft. One will receive it within minutes. Once you get the Product Key you do not have to follow the Windows Installation again. One can simply upgrade the product key by logging in the administrative account. There are a few methods with which one can update the product key. Windows Activation Wizard and Windows Management Instrumentation are the two ways to change the Windows XP product Key. Out of the two the Activation Wizard method is the easier one.
Materials Needed:- Basic knowledge about computers and a bit about legal product id key. A licensed version of Microsoft Windows XP Product Key is required.
Step 1
The first step is to go to Start menu and click on the 'Run' button
Step 2
Once clicking on the 'Run' option a pop-up window will open type 'regedit' into this text box and then click on the 'OK' button.
Step 3
A Registry Editor will appear. One has to select the + sign of the Hkey_local_machine folder under the 'My computer' Section. Select the 'Software' folder then 'Microsoft' and then 'WindowsNT' folder. Expand the 'Current version' and finally 'WPAEvents' option.
Step 4
Once you click on the 'WPAEvents' a OOBETimer icon appears on the right side of the window. Right click on the 'OOBETimer', and click on the 'Modify' option from the pop-up menu bar.
Step 5
Alter at least one of the digits in the 'Edit Binary Value' window. Once OOBETimer value has been changed click on the 'OK' button to close the 'Edit Binary Value' window.
Step 6
Again click on the 'Start' menu and then 'Run' option.
Step 7
Type '%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a' in the entry text field which appears after clicking on the 'Run' option. The only space is between the '.exe' and the '/a' letters.
Step 8
Click on the option 'Yes’ I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows', and select 'Next' option.
Step 9
Select the 'Change Product Key' button at the bottom of the window and type the new legal product Id Key into the text box field. After typing the accurate Product Id Key click on the update tab.
Step 10
After doing this you must get a message like 'You have successfully activated your copy of Windows', this approves the activation of the new Windows Product Key. Once you restart your computer it is done.
